THE AGITATORS AT CCT – ONLY 3 SHOWS!

Caribbean Community Theatre continues its 38th season with The Agitators, a play by Mat Smart, on January 13, 14 & 15, 2023.

This beautifully written play tells of the enduring but tempestuous friendship of Susan B. Anthony and Frederick Douglass: great allies and, at times, great adversaries.

Young abolitionists when they met in the 1840s, they were full of hopes, dreams, and a common purpose. As they grew to become the cultural icons we know today, their movements collided, and their friendship was tested.

This is the story of that 45-year friendship – from its beginning in Rochester, New York, through a civil war, and to the highest halls of government. They agitated the nation, they agitated each other, and they helped shape the U.S. Constitution and the course of American history.

“The Agitators unfolds like a scrapbook, with snippets of conversation between Douglass and Anthony during their decades-long struggles for abolition and voting rights.” / The Seattle Times

There are only three shows of The Agitators at CCT over Martin Luther King, Jr. weekend: January 13 and 14, Friday and Saturday at 8 PM, and one Sunday matinee performance at 4 PM on January 15, 2023.

Six actors will portray these two agitators on the CCT stage: Felicia Magliula, Natalie Hollins and Patricia Scott as Susan B. Anthony, and Robert L. Reffell, Justin Smith and Lionel Downer as Frederick Douglass. Eileen Bishop Des Jardins directs this poignant and compelling production.
