CCT is pleased to announce the opening of The Lone Star Love Potion on Friday, July 25, 2008, for a two-week run at Caribbean Community Theatre. Performances will be held on Friday and Saturday evenings, July 25-26 and August 1-2 at 8:00 p.m., with two Sunday matinées, on July 27 and August 3, 2008 at 4:00 p.m.
The Lone Star Love Potion is described by the playwright, Michael Parker, as an “American farce,”” employing the comic conventions of European farces but with situations and characters relevant to a U.S. audience. The author has written numerous works in this “naughty but nice” genre – just the ticket for a summer evening’s entertainment. The play opens as the immensely wealthy owner of a Texas ranch has died. His niece, butler, and an alluring maid are among those gathered for the reading of the will when the butler produces from the safe a reputedly powerful love potion of exotic origin. Before long, everyone is sipping the concoction with hilarious results. As one reviewer puts it, “Gales of laughter approached hurricane force. This play’s a hoot.” Boca Raton News.
