Don’t miss Caribbean Community Theatre’s production of EVITA – the Award-Winning Musical by Andrew Lloyd Webber & Tim Rice. There will be nine performances of this rock musical on Friday and Saturday evenings, February 6-7, 13-14, and 20-21, and 27-28, 2009 at 8 PM, as well as a Sunday matinée on February 15 at 4 PM.
All performances will be at the Caribbean Community Theatre at #18 Estate Orange Grove in Christiansted, St. Croix. Tickets will be sold in advance on Saturday and Sunday afternoons on January 24 & 25 and January 31 & February 1 at CCT from 2-5 PM. Tickets are $20 for adults ($15 for CCT members); and $10 for students. No children under age 10 will be admitted.
Based on Mary Main’s biography Evita: The Woman with the Whip, this musical explores the life of Eva Peron, the second wife of Argentinian President Juan Peron. This popular musical won many Tony Awards, including Best Musical and Best Score, and was also the recipient of the Oliver Award for Best New Musical. The setting of the play is Argentina from 1934 to 1952.
The score contains many memorable songs, including “Don’t Cry for me Argentina.”
EVITA is directed by Lorraine Durand and Eileen Bishop Des Jardins with music direction by Kathleen Dodge-DeHaven and choreography by Nicole Gariepy and Khnuma and Xaulanda Simmonds. Featured vocalists include Kaitlyn Allen, John Baur, Leslie Highfield Carter (as Evita), and Nick Tyler. The cast includes many talented dancers, singers, and actors from across the island.
Musicians include Julie Beberman on flute, Paul Chakroff, Wayne Fraederich and Bill Howell in the brass section, and other talented performers.
