8 TO 5 – GOVERNMENT WORKERS STYLE II
CCT closes its 25th season with “a bust-out-laughing” play: 8 to 5 – Government Workers Style II. There will be six evening performances of this West Indian comedy on Fridays and Saturdays, July 9-10, 16-17, and 23-24 at 8 PM, and one Sunday matinée on July 18th at 4 PM.
Everyone who lives in the Virgin Islands probably has a humorous (in retrospect) story to tell about dealing with one or another of our government agencies. Playwright Imelda A. “Sandra” Edwards has collected all these situations into a witty office-place comedy that will strike your funny bone – whether or not you were “bahn yah.” CCT produced this show ten years ago as a one-act play, and the author has since added lots of new material to expand it to a full evening’s entertainment – a behavioral extravaganza that would astonish Ann Landers, Dear Abby, and the genteel people who write to them for advice about their co-workers.
Directed by Eileen Bishop Des Jardins, this Crucian comedy features Irene Cuffy, Xauskya Emmanuel, Carol Frank, Beverly Antoine-Frederick, Carmen Simmonds, Khnuma Simmonds, Xaulanda Simmonds-Emmanuel, Jose Maldonado and Sharon Powell.
Imelda A. “Sandra” Edwards was born and raised in Antigua, West Indies. She has written several plays which have been produced in the Virgin Islands and New York, and has also written calypso lyrics and participated in the annual calypso competitions on St. Croix using the stage name “Lady Brain.” She is the author of three self-published novels: A Caribbean Story of Love, Lust and Lies; the sequel: A Caribbean Story of Hurt, Horror and Healing; and Smell Like a Rose (sub-title): A Caribbean Story of Cruelty, Corruption and Compassion.
All performances of 8 to5 – Government Workers Style II will be held at the Caribbean Community Theatre at #18 Estate Orange Grove in Christiansted, St. Croix. Tickets are sold at the box office at CCT prior to each performance: $15 for adults; $8 for students. Box office and bar open at 7:15 PM on show nights, and at 3:15 PM for the Sunday matinée; arrive early for best seating. Not recommended for children under age 14.
