CCT Opens 35th Season with Comedy Ripcord

CCT opens its 35th season with Ripcord, a comedy by David Lindsay-Abaire. There are seven chances to catch this wacky play over three weekends in November. Show dates are November 8-9, 15-16 and 22-23, 2019 Fridays and Saturdays at 8 PM, with one Sunday matinee on November 17 at 4 PM.

In a sunny room at the Bristol Place Senior Living Facility, cantankerous Abby is forced to share her quarters with new-arrival Marilyn. She has no choice but to attempt to get rid of the infuriatingly chipper woman by any means necessary. A seemingly harmless bet between the two women quickly escalates into a dangerous game of one-upmanship that reveals not just the tenacity of these worthy opponents, but also deeper truths that each would rather remain hidden. This cleverly written tale of adversaries is funny and touching.

Diana Prince directs the cast of Ripcord: Wendy Keeler Adams, Neil Admirari, Michael Baker, Beth Moss Mahar, Maurya McClure, and Michael Wright.

Ripcord tickets are $20 for adults, with discounts for seniors, students and CCT members, and may be purchased (for cash only) at the CCT box office prior to each show, which opens 45 minutes before curtain. This play is not recommended for children under age 13.

All performances are held at the Caribbean Community Theatre at #18 Estate Orange Grove in Christiansted, St. Croix.

CCT productions are jointly supported by a grant from the Virgin Islands Council on the Arts and the National Endowment for the Arts, and co-sponsored by Diageo USVI, Marshall & Sterling Insurance, and Seascape Pool Center.

The Caribbean Community Theatre presents Bedtime Stories (as told by our dad, who messed them up), this Saturday and Sunday, December 14 and 15, 2019 at 4:00 PM (only two shows), featuring the students of The Calico Cat Company, CCT’s after-school theater program for children. This silly play will appeal to the whole family.

It’s Dad’s turn to tell his three rambunctious kids their bedtime stories, but when he gets fuzzy on the details, the classics get creative: a prince with a snoring problem spices up The Princess and The Pea, The Boy Who Cried Wolf cries dinosaur instead, and Rumpelstiltskin helps turn all that pesky gold into straw. You may think you know your fairy tales, but not the way Dad tells them.

Audience members will enjoy the talents of budding young actors as they portray a variety of interesting and familiar characters, such as queens, princes, princesses, dinosaurs, sheep, and much more. This show by kids and for kids is directed by Imani Evans and Jonelle Alexis Jackson, and assisted by Brianna Campbell and Lydia Wilson.

Don’t miss this comedy performed by these talented children at the Caribbean Community Theatre at #18 Estate Orange Grove in Christiansted, St. Croix. Tickets are sold at the box office at CCT (for cash only) prior to the performance: $5 for adults and teenagers; $2 for children age 12 and under.  Box office opens for ticket sales at 3:15 PM on show dates; arrive early for best seating.

Come see this show at CCT this weekend and enjoy some good family fun.

Driving Miss Daisy at CCT

CCT continues its 35th season with a staged dramatic reading of Driving Miss Daisy, a play by award-winning playwright Alfred Uhry. There are only two chances to catch this production over Martin Luther King Jr. weekend in January. Show dates are Saturday, January 18th at 8 PM, with one Sunday matinee on January 19 at 4 PM.

Set in the Deep South, just prior to the Civil Rights movement, Driving Miss Daisy tells the story of Daisy Werthan, a rich, sharp-tongued Jewish widow of seventy-two, who after recently demolishing another car, was informed by her son, Boolie, that she must now rely on the services of a chauffeur. Hired for the job is a thoughtful, unemployed black man, Hoke Colburn. Immediately, Miss Daisy regards Hoke with disdain. Hoke, in turn, is not impressed by his employer’s patronizing tone, and he believes, her latent prejudice. But in a series of absorbing scenes, spanning twenty-five years, despite their mutual differences, the two grow ever closer to, and more dependent on, each other. Slowly and steadily the dignified, good-natured Hoke breaks down the stern defenses of the ornery Daisy, as she teaches him to read and write and, in a gesture of good will and shared concern, invites him to join her at a banquet in honor of Martin Luther King, Jr.

James Racheff directs the cast of CCT’s dramatic reading of Driving Miss Daisy: Michael Baker, Adele DeWitt, John L. Moorhead, with a special appearance by Lionel Downer as Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.
