Corie Bratter and Paul Bratter are newlyweds settling into their first home in New York City, a fifth-floor walkup with bad plumbing. He’s a straight-as-an-arrow lawyer and she’s a free spirit always looking for the latest kick. When Corie decides to set up her anxious mother with their peculiar neighbor, Mr. Velasco, everything that can go wrong, does. In the course of the wild adventure that follows, Corie complains that Paul is too staid, too boring. She suggests that he become more spontaneous, running “barefoot in the park,” for example, as Paul comes to grips with how very different they are from each other.
